I am hoping to earn your vote to allow me to help the future of Spring Lake Township with sustainable development and protection of all of our water and land resources. I have a doctorate in water resource studies with emphasis on community sustainability. I have worked with elected officials all over the Midwest for improvements in their communities.
My educational background and areas of community service:
PhD, Water Resource Studies/Community Sustainability, MSU
MS, Aquatic Ecology, GVSU
BS, Biology/Limnology, MTU
Volunteer Science Advisor and member of the Board of Directors for the non-profit Michigan Lake and Stream Associations (2008-present)
Sworn Board Member for the Michigamme River Basin Tax Increment Finance Authority, Water Resource Specialist, Republic, Michigan (2021-present)
Over decades of experience working closely with numerous elected officials such as local leaders and county leaders on critical water resource issues. See my endorsements below from some of them.
With a strong background in water resources and land use planning, I hope to provide my expertise to the Board and to the entire community.
1. I prefer to listen to individuals and collaborate as a unified team.
2. We need a framework to protect ALL of our waters in Spring Lake and an audit of all ordinances to see that they align with our resident lifestyles and protection of green space while allowing for responsible growth.
3. In addition, we need to carefully review and revise our Township Master Plan! Fragile wetlands are being destroyed with the current plan and the water quality of Spring Lake has been declining.
4. The Township Board must be more accountable to the public and be open to questioning proposals from the planning commission.
1. We need to ensure that our local ordinances protect our individual properties and also allow for responsible growth. We need to preserve the rapidly disappearing character of our town! This is especially critical during times of over-regulation by our state.
2. Our state is threatening to determine where solar and
wind power can be implemented without regard to our
natural resources or your property rights. I am working
on a Natural Capital Protection Ordinance that would protect our natural features and ensure that developers must prove "no harm" to our natural features prior to applying for local permits.
3. This may include closer communication with neighboring municipalities which would bring more resources to our Township!
1. We need to allow for public involvement in decision-making so all of our residents have a voice and we can all agree on a mutual outcome.
2. Also, all Township activities must be publicly advertised and accessible at all times. This includes detailed meeting minutes so residents that cannot attend meetings can review prior decisions and other critical information.
3. Public comments must be allowed at the beginning and at the end of all meetings.
4. Recordings of all meetings should be uploaded to
YouTube or similar platform.
5. All critical documents for future improvements or changes must be on display at the Township hall at all times and assessible online for review by the public.
1. In such uncertain times, we need more protection from crime and more patrols to keep our community safe!
2. We need to enhance security that is stretched too thin for our growing community! An audit of our police, fire, and first responders is needed to ensure there is enough assistance for a major disaster or multiple incidences.
3. A revisit of safe speed limits is also needed for our local roads while we are growing. This is especially critical as the bike paths expand with pedestrian crossings. The Township board is currently proposing to expand the bike path and collect a second bike path millage in 2024. We need to know that our taxes are being used for the most critical services.
"Jennifer would be a great choice for Spring Lake Township Trustee. She has worked with Carp Lake Township for over 15 years to help us manage our 19-hundred-acre lake. As TWP Supervisor and Lake Improvement Board Chairman, we are very happy with the results. Jennifer is Professional, Knowledgeable, and would be a great addition to the Spring Lake TWP Board. Also, when you call, she answers.

"Jennifer Jermalowicz-Jones and I have worked together for at least a decade on the lake management of Lake Angelus. Serving as the Lake Manager of Lake Angelus during that time, I have found Dr. Jones to be a wonderful complement to our city's Environmental Board in terms of decision making. She presents the data she and her team have collected and analyzed in an extremely professional manner and listens carefully to all the opinions of the citizens of our city. Decisions made are based upon what is best for the environment and the city, nothing else. I have also had the pleasure of sitting in on several of Dr. Jones' lectures at conferences. Once again, she has always conducted herself in a very knowledgeable and professional manner. If I may say so, I am very proud that I have had the opportunity to know and be associated with Dr. Jennifer Jermalowicz-Jones. As Mayor of Lake Angelus and Lake Manager of our most valuable asset, the lake itself, I indorse Jennifer Jermalowicz-Jones in her bid for Trustee of Spring Lake Township. I feel certain that she will always work in the best interest of her constituents.

"Jennifer and I have worked together, with she and her firm providing comprehensive and successful lake management solutions for several years. Her dedication to evidence and science-based solutions ensures that decisions are not only environmentally sound but also financially sustainable for the community's future. We have worked well together forming a working coalition of our lake association, our township trustees, and her team at RLS.
I am confident that as Spring Lake trustee Jennifer Jones-Jermalowicz she will lead with integrity, intelligence, and a steadfast commitment to the well-being of the entire community and its natural resources.

"Dear Spring Lake Township Voters,
I have had the pleasure to work with Jennifer Jermalowicz-Jones since 2016 through my position on the Houghton Lake Improvement Board.
Jennifer is dedicated to her craft, exhibiting heart felt passion for the natural resources we value so much in the state of Michigan. Her work ethic is second to none. I have found her to be straightforward, honest, and sincere.
While our views are not always aligned on a variety of topics, I believe the voters of Spring Lake Township have an opportunity to elect an individual who will serve the township with dignity and passion.
Sincerely,
